Liu Hao

Liu Hao is an artist, composer, and software developer whose practice connects sound, image, computation, and interaction. He creates audiovisual works, electronic music, software instruments, and experimental systems that move between artistic expression and practical tools.

I am interested in the moment when an idea becomes a system, and when a system becomes an experience. Code, sound synthesis, real-time graphics, interfaces, and machine learning are not separate disciplines in my work; they are different ways of shaping time, behavior, and perception.

Many of my projects begin with a technical question: how can a system listen, generate, transform, or respond? Through making, that question becomes artistic — how can sound, image, and interaction reveal rhythm, memory, uncertainty, or attention?

I do not separate artworks from tools. A synthesizer can be an instrument, a composition environment, or an artwork in itself. A visual system can be both a structure and a performance. I build open-ended systems that invite use, interpretation, and unexpected outcomes.

My practice continues to evolve across music, software, and visual media. What remains constant is the desire to make ideas tangible — and to create structures through which new experiences can emerge.
